| Three Lab Tests Every Patient Must Run |
|
Health professionals who utilize Functional Lab Testing focus on tests that help to assess the health of your body's core body systems: Hormones, immunity, digestion, and metabolism. Among the tests available, these 3 are the most common and should be a part of your ongoing health care program:

With Adrenal Stress Profiles, you will collect four or more saliva samples over the course of a day. The results will show the levels of cortisol (the stress hormone), DHEA, progesterone, testosterone, estradiol, estriol, estrone, and melatonin. Your health care provider will explain the results and offer treatment options (such as bioidentical hormone replacement therapy) and recommend lifestyle changes. Other saliva tests measure the female cycle or isolate hormones applicable to perimenopause and menopause. Melatonin biorhythm panels for sleep disorders are also available. |
The GI Pathogen Screen is an examination of stools for infections such as Giardia, Cryptosporidium, C. difficile, Blastocystis, and Helicobacter pylori. The test also screens for yeast (such as Candida), fungi, and occult blood. Finding bugs and imbalances in your gut now can help you prevent serious problems later. The Intestinal Barrier Function Test is a convenient salivary test that will reveal the integrity of the mucosal barrier that lines your intestines. If this barrier is damaged, nutritional therapies and diet/lifestyle changes will be required to return the lining to health. Additional testing to determine the root cause of the problem may also be indicated. |
Immunity tests such as the Intestinal Barrier Function Test, Celiac/Gluten Sensitivity Profiles, and Secretory IgA Panels are crtitical diagnostics for assessing your immune system's functional activity. Notably, if you are found to be gluten intolerant or not producing adequate Secretory IgA (the first-line of immune defense in the mucus lining of the digestive tract) changes in your diet and lifestyle will be necessary to protect your health. Additional testing is available for further immune system assessment, using standard blood markers. |
The Metabolic Assessment Profile is a urine test that determines your ability to digest proteins, your state of oxidative stress and free radical damage, along with a direct assessment of liver function to determine your ability to detoxify. Blood Chemistry testing can identify problems with kidney and liver function, blood sugar, bone health, anemia, detoxification, and more. |
